For the first time ever, I framed one of my doilies. This was the Amethyst doily from Kathy‘s birthstone series. This went as a housewarming present to someone who is also a crocheter, so hopefully she’ll value it. Another housewarming present was the mammoth Ruby Dreams (unframed), and it seemed to be appreciated, though I’m always unsure about my presents…
The framing cost Rs 160/- and the background is cream/off-white handmade paper.
Yes, it’s blocked and done! Yay! It might look good framed, no?
Here’s a close-up (just like that):
I love being a pattern tester! It brings together my two interests: crochet and fault-finding editing nicely.
Thread: Anchor size 20, two strands, one red and the other variegated in red and dark brown/black
Hook: Tulip size 2/1.5 mm steel hook
Pattern: Kathy‘s Amethyst Doily
Time: Over two days (no, you’ll never get time in hours from me, ain’t a marathon person)
Size: 18″
Extra: #1 Kathy might be doing a whole series of these doilies
#2 It cupped a bit after the final row, but it lies nice and flat after blocking. (No “wrassling” involved ;))
PS: It’s called Amethyst because that’s the colour Kathy made it in.
Sorry for the long blogging silence, but I came down to my parents in Hyderabad last week, and the computer here is slow and old….
Anyway, here is my last big FO, Kathy‘s mesh shopping bag in size 20 thread and with seed beads.
I absolutely loved the pattern, as well as my first experience with the big eye needle that Kathy sent me to use for beading.
for more than a month, is this:
I tested the pattern for Kathy, who once again created an amazingly intricate and beautiful creation. I am so proud of being a tester for her!
I used Size 40 Anchor thread in cream, about 3 full 50g balls and a litle more. Also bugle beads (strung on with an ordinary sewing needle *horror*, even breaking one!) and ended up entangling a good bit (which remains that way, I’ll undo it if I need the beads).
Now of course, Kathy has sent me 3 beading needles along with the beds for her next pattern (which is progressing very smoothly, let me say).
What a change the proper equipment makes! The beads are seed beads in turquoise, and the beading needle (big eye) made stringing a dream!
Yes! I have a repeat order. This is from Kathy again that I am testing a pattern for. I’ve printed off the pattern and and am even now rushing off to start. I’m going to have fun!

So this was one of the mystery doilies I was working on the last week. I was testing the pattern for Kathy aka Katchkan at Crochetville. It was a great pattern to work with, every round was interesting. I’ve never done this sort of stitch before, I think it’s the “Lacet” stitch. It makes for a very nice look.
I specially loved how Kathy designed the last row, which is basically composed of ch, scs, tr clusters and trs and picots. Instead of having you do four different monotonic rows, she composed a single composite row worked in manageable sections. Ingenious!
Yes, I do crochet. **vigorous nod** In fact on my hook(s) right now I have two doilies. One is for my Crochetville Doily swap, and the other is a pattern I’m testing. Being as they are both confidential, I cannot reveal either one either by name or author….But be patient, and you will see pictures of at least one before the week is out…
Here is my patchwork bolero folks. I was testing the pattern for Donna. The patchwork effect is totally unintended!

Here is how the back looks:
Ta-da! Here is my Carpenter Hat, which I made online! Meaning, I was chatting on the monthly Crochet-A-Thon from Crochetlist and having great fun, all at the same time as making this. And they said I couldn’t multi-task! I was testing this pattern for Jackie over at the Crochetville forums. She very kindly gave me permission to put up this photo here.
Hey! Who shrank my head when I wasn’t looking?!

But seriously, the CAT was great fun, and I didn’t feel like a firsttimer at all!!! It’s a good thing it only happens once a month, though, because it’s far too distracting and I had to tear myself away from the comp to go cook/clean/breathe/whatever.
Wow!
I’ve volunteered as pattern tester for a couple more things and now I’ve got lots of stuff to make from folks over at the Crochetville forum. Yay!
I’m almost through with the Claudia Bolero (I shall be calling it the patchwork bolero for reasons that will be obvious when I upload photos…).
Then I have a Carpenter Hat to do, as well as the thread angel set….It’s a bit overwhelming, but what fun!!!!
I’ve also jumped on the Crochetville RAOK bandwagon, and added my wishlist there. Found a couple of things I could do for other people, too.
Being in the forum is like a self-perpetuating cycle. The more you read, the more ideas you get, the more things you make and the more you want to post!!!
