Sorry to be so vulgar, but I’ve finally finished my first adult knitted garment. The candy stripes cardigan is done and here it is:
Front
And back:
Yarn: Acrylic from Shillong. Less than 600 gms both colours together.
Needles: Pony 3.75 mm and 4.5 mm straights (pattern calls for 4.5 and 5.00mm)
Pattern: Robin Wools sheet from Shillong (Rs 10 per sheet)
Time: Over 2 weeks
Size: Me!
Extra: #1 First-ever adult garment!
#2 Used the largest size number of stitches and worked it to my size measurements
#3 Read what Nona says about process vs product. I’m not sure I like the fit of this cardigan either, but I liked making it. And of course, I look nothing like this: :-p

What have we here? An FO!!
The Short rows baby jacket that I read wrong and made a right royal mess of is finally done. It ain’t pretty and won’t stand up to close scrutiny, but done it is. Here are the gory details:
Yarn: Froya Narvik 100% wool, 3 50gm balls, 131 yds each (120m).
Hook: Pony 3.75 mm straights (the label calls for 4mm)
Pattern: Garter stitch short rows
Time: Over a week (come on, you don’t really expect me to give you exact times, now, do you?)
Size: 21″ around, 10.5″ from neck edge to bottom edge, 10″ sleeve, 4″ cuff.
Extra: #1 Learning short rows
#2 I read the pattern wrong, else the shaping goes from one front panel to sleeve to back to sleeve and second front panel.
#3 The pattern doesn’t give measurements of the finished product in inches, only says ‘3-6’ month baby. Could somebody please tell me what size baby this might fit? Please!
#4 The binding off had to be done imaginatively because I ran out of yarn and I invented a technique of binding off which involved picking up loops and slipping over themselves and a spot of black magic…
#5 I also joined the fronts together at the top because of the same issue of yarn shortage. More abracadabra there.
#6 Skipped the 3-4 rows of ribbing at the neck edge. See #4 and #5 above for reason.
It's a ripple doormat! Finally managed to finish something with the rectangle ripple pattern. The colour is more purple than the dull nothingness in the picture.
Yarn: RH SS Dusk Rose (?) and RH Aran fleck, each with two strands held together. Not full skeins.
Hook: Size K 6.50mm Crystalite
Pattern: Ripple stitch, 62sts wide
Time: Overnight
Size: About 27" long and 18" wide
Extra: First ripple and nice, too.
Also nicer than the so-called Half Circle that I made with the same yarn in January.
Remember the fun-furry yarns that J had sent me from Lucknow? Well, both have been needled. One is yet a UFO, but the blue feather type got made into this mini scarf for my poor neglected SP. It feels really soft. Knit in garter stitch throughout on straights.
Yarn: Vardhman funfur-ry 1 50gm ball
Hook: Size 7 (UK?) 4.50mm straights
Pattern: Garter stitch, 24 sts wide
Time: Overnight
Size: About 36" long and 5" wide
Extra: Knitting is best for fur-type yarns. The simplicity of the garter stitch shows the texture well.
On a closer look, the yarn looks like something to do with chickens…
Finally have an FO. Ok, it's only about 6" high, but it's done, nevertheless, and I used my hook and yarn and hands…
The pattern is by CroJulee at Crochetville.
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver in purple (teensy amount only)
Hook: Pony Size 5.00mm
Pattern: Here
Time: 30 minutes (or less)
Size: 6"
Extra: #1 Sort of like a one-night stand, for instant gratification.
#2 Now I have to think what I could possibly put in this bag. Any suggestions, anyone?
For the first time ever, I framed one of my doilies. This was the Amethyst doily from Kathy‘s birthstone series. This went as a housewarming present to someone who is also a crocheter, so hopefully she’ll value it. Another housewarming present was the mammoth Ruby Dreams (unframed), and it seemed to be appreciated, though I’m always unsure about my presents…
The framing cost Rs 160/- and the background is cream/off-white handmade paper.
By now my dear readers must have given up on ever finding the right colours under the titles of my posts. Suffice it to say I’m using up my stash to make these doilies, rather than going on a shopping spree, when quite possibly I wouldn’t get the recommended colours anyway.
Here is the info on this one:
Thread: Madura Coats Red Heart size 20, Grey
Hook: Tulip size 2/1.5 mm steel hook
Pattern: Kathy‘s Aquamarine Starcatcher
Time: 2-3 days
Size: 19″
Extra: #Can’t think of anything right now.
Update: Sent it to Amy for CLBFX
And here’s the proof:

This was a doily I tested for Kathy, called Ruby Dreams, one of the twelve birthstone doilies she’s designing. She made it in ruby red.
Thread: Madura Coats Red Heart size 20, white
Hook: Tulip size 2/1.5 mm steel hook
Pattern: Kathy‘s Ruby Dreams
Time: Over nearly three weeks, I think
Size: 28″
Extra: #1 The first time I did a filet in sections
#2 First time I did filet in a circle
#3 Very badly blocked. I cannot fathom how to tackle the uneven edges without the normal doily motifs.
Proof No. 2

No, it’s not a butterfly wing shawl, but my first ever encounter with a Q hook. That hook is painful! I had a tender spot on my hand where the hook rested for a couple of days. And this pattern comes from Leisure Arts #3068.
Yarn: Red Heart SS Aran Fleck, unknown brand (probably RHSS) in a dusty plum colour, both ww
Hook: Susan Bates Q hook (ouch)
Pattern: Half Circle (yeah, right) rug from Leisure Arts #3068
Time: 4-5 hours?
Size: about 3 feet across, maybe? I was too discouraged by the shape to measure it.
Extra: #1 First ever Q hook project
#2 First ever rug
#3 First time I switched to the knife hold because it was so painful to crochet with the pencil hold (or whatever my regular hold is)
#4 I got the yarn from the recycling contest at Crochet Partners.
#5 Worked with four strands held together
And for those who are curious, I went straight from the 1.5 mm steel hook to the plastic Q hook. Oopsie. Call me crazy or maybe I just wanted a change.
This is for a friend’s baby (the same one I made the slant stitch afghan for), in the same local yarn that I finished the afghan/blanket with. The pattern is from Paton’s Woolcraft Golden Hands Baby Clothes of 1974. I used a size 4.00mm Winfield hook that Chrissie in the UK from Crochetlist sent me in memory of Susan Renfrow.

Here’s a closeup of the stitches:

Yes, it’s blocked and done! Yay! It might look good framed, no?
Here’s a close-up (just like that):
I love being a pattern tester! It brings together my two interests: crochet and fault-finding editing nicely.
Thread: Anchor size 20, two strands, one red and the other variegated in red and dark brown/black
Hook: Tulip size 2/1.5 mm steel hook
Pattern: Kathy‘s Amethyst Doily
Time: Over two days (no, you’ll never get time in hours from me, ain’t a marathon person)
Size: 18″
Extra: #1 Kathy might be doing a whole series of these doilies
#2 It cupped a bit after the final row, but it lies nice and flat after blocking. (No “wrassling” involved ;))
PS: It’s called Amethyst because that’s the colour Kathy made it in.
