I found out today one of my close friends has had a baby girl, just a little before she was due to. I’m hugely thrilled to hear of a girl, because it seems like everyone is popping out the other kind. I dearly want to make something for the baby, but the issue is that it is an Indian baby and will live mostly in hot climates (in addition to having been born in summer). What could I make for her? Suggestions please.

Crocheted and/or knitted toys or dolls? Easy for a baby to hold, washable when they’ve been slobbered upon.

Something like a large, loose poncho out of cotton for after bath time might work nicely. I’ve been thinking of knitting one for my kid – even though she’s a little bigger, she still shivers like crazy when she comes out of the water. Something thick and cottony that you could toss over her head would mop up the water and warm her up at the same time.

Congratulations to your friends and I’m glad to see that you’re back on line again. Cotton wash rags are always useful, but I don’t know if you want to put that much work into something that will be used in some very undignified ways. The suggestion of toys is excellent. Take care.

How about a crotcheted collar for a cotton dress (in contrasting colors)? If you make a bunch of those you’d become the producer of the “serial collar”.
